Top 10 Books you MUST read

booksI must confess, I am not a fast reader. Sometimes I read over a paragraph three or four times so I can absorb what it is offering me. But I do love books. And, I’m not a fan of those kindle devices (although I’m partial to an printed out e-book!). My books are all scribbled, underlined, ear-marked and loved!

I’ve been reading personal growth and spiritual texts since I was nineteen. I literally devour them. I can happily say, they have helped shape who I am today. It’s an honour to be able to directly learn from some of the greatest teachers in the world, right in the comfort of my bed (double bonus!!).

I was guided to read my first ‘self-help’ book, Feel the fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers at 19. A friend of a friend was talking about reading it and the impact it had made on her.. I thought it sounded very intriguing so I went off to Collins Bookstore and bought myself a copy. This very easy to read book gave me my first major ah-ha realisation which went something like:

Holy Beeeep .. I Get to choose the course of my life, I CAN actually make choices! Fear isn’t a sign that I ‘shouldn’t’ do something?!!!”

And with that.. I broke up with my boyfriend!

It may sound strange, but as a 19 year old, I was so used to just dealing with life, reacting to whatever I believed life threw at me. Which seems silly now.. given I know life doesn’t work like that. We co-create our lives with Spirit. But at 19, highly emotional, hormonal and with an overload of “what the heck should I do with my life” questions and insecurities.. this ah-ha moment literally changed the trajectory of my path.

I am always suggesting books to my clients to read, because while our sessions are inspiring and stir something in them to want to take steps forward.. the majority of the work is done outside our session. Implementing the tools in real life, doing the journaling or reading or letter writing or creative activity or lovingly letting go of a habit, or creating a new one.. whatever steps we have planned together in our session.

But books can be such a huge part of moving forward. Filling your mind with nourishing text, words that speak the Truth to you, words that give you ah-ha moments which can (like me) change the course of your path. This guidance can help you change things: ideas, beliefs, the way you talk, who you spend time with. Books can be transformational tools. And they are so dam cheap!!

So with that.. these are the top 10 books I recommend to my clients. I could literally list 100 more, but these ones are easy to digest, hold deep soulful Truths which make you question everything, are enjoyable to read and seriously wise..

This gem of a book guides readers on the 5 Truths about fear and teaches you, lovingly, how to grab hold of your fear and move forward with you life.

What I loved about this book was the practicality of the text. It gives examples and how-to’s all the way through.

If you feel fear is holding you back from living your true divinity.. this is $24 you have to spend!

Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom, Christianne Northrup

This book is a MUST HAVE for all women. Dr Christianne Northrup is a medical doctor for women, who over the course of her career began to see direct links between emotional, spiritual and physical health.

This book covers everything about women’s health from menstruating to menopause and everything in between. She shares the spiritual and scientific principles behind healing which is nothing short of profound.

Personally this book was an incredible guide when I was going to my pre-cancer cervical issue 5 years ago, as well as my ‘trying’ to get pregnant phase + through pregnancy and post pregnancy. Screen shot 2016-05-19 at 11.51.52 AM

Radical Forgiveness, Collin Tipping

ALL of my clients get a hand out on Radical Forgiveness! I spruik Collin Tipping’s work all the time.

As I delve deeper into the area of forgiveness, I am uncovering and remembering how vital forgiveness work is.

Radical forgiveness was a game changer for me. It literally flipped traditional forgiveness on its head. In a good way. SO. MUCH. FREEDOM.

This book guides you gently to release old perceptions that hold you in pain and sadness. It helps you to engage your own innate wisdom and cultivates self love.

Conversations with God (Book: 1), Neale Donald Walsh

What can I say about this book. It’s akin to snuggling up to a warm open fire with a hot cuppa. So beautiful and soulful.

Reading this book I felt so supported by Spirit. It debunked many of the traditional Catholic beliefs I was raised with and replaced them with the innate beliefs I had inside of me all the along.

If you’re looking for a gentle yet powerful entry into the Truth of Spirit. This is the book!

Return to Love, Marianne Williamson

Put simply this book is Marianne Williamson’s understanding, learnings and short-cut version of The Course in Miracles.

This book speaks to me so deeply. In short, her book begins to awaken in you the Truth about life and Spirit. She discusses miracles as being a shift in perception from Fear to Love, how to reconnect with God/Spirit and how Forgiveness is the cornerstone of freedom.

It’s a truly magical and wonderful resource.

 Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte

I was guided to this book about 3 years ago, when it cost some un-Godly amount to buy! Now, it’s cheaps and chips!

However, I was never disappointed with my purchase! This book is filled with simple, powerful teachings about where our desires truly come from and how to ensure they are fulfilled. It’s a real practical guide to goals with soul.

So much love for this book!

Eat. Pray. Love. Elizabeth Gilbert

You’ve likely read it already, but if not.. Go out today and buy it. Perfect for wintery afternoons with a cup of tea. This story recounts Elizabeth’s journey of self discovery through travelling to India, Italy and Indonesia. It’s magical, inspiring, heart opening, and a real page-turner for me.

This is soul food!

The alchemist, Paulo Coelho

This book is deliciously simple to read and yet with so much goodness. Essentially this book is about coming home to yourself. We all believe (or we’ve been made to believe – thanks marketing and media) that all the goodness of life is outside of ourselves. This book illustrates the journey back to where the breath of life began, where the magic lies, where your Truth and purposes resides.

I heart this book. (and most of Paulo’s books!)

Loving What Is, Byron Katie

Are you sick of your thoughts (which is *99.7% fears based) ruling your world. Creating crippling anxiety, sadness, anger, fear, depressing views on yourself, life and others?!

This book is a wonderfully uncomplicated book which shows you how to help your thoughts get back on track. We are often moaning about the past or stressed about the future.. this book, with its 4 simple, yet profound questions, which Byron Katie called ‘The Work’, helps you to stop, check, and release those pesky musings which are absolutely not serving you. {*disclaimer I made up that figure!)

And that is my list. It’s certainly not exhaustive. In fact, I’ll likely keep adding to it when real gems pop up that are simple, helpful and profound.

Are there any more that you would like to add? What books have changed your life, opened you up or help you to heal?

Love for you to share!

Love + Light,
